Clif, again, I think that FDR was a good president. He provided strong leadership to the country when we truly needed it. All I said was that he, like every other president, may have made some miscues (ask the Japanese-Americans that he interned if they think that FDR was perfect). That's all. Oh, and, Voltron, could you please remind Mikester that this "mumbo-jumbo" about tax cuts stimulating the economy originated with JFK. Maybe THAT'LL convince him that tax cuts work. Yes, we had deficits under Reagan and Bush, but that was because the spending continued to accelerate, not because the tax cuts didn't produce more revenue.

But, Clif, if there is NO relationship between taxation rates and incentive/growth, then we probably could go back to 70, 80, 90% taxation rates on the wealthy, right? I mean, the government knows better how to spend that money than all those stupid rich people, right? RIGHT? And, Clif, just for the record, I DEFENDED Obama on his raising the rates from 35-39% - not that it was necesssarily a good idea to do so but that he wasn't a Communist for doing so. A "moderate" defense, in other words. Face it, Clif, I'm a moderate and you don't like moderates. In fact, I think you hate us MORE that you do conservatives.

I was referring to Obama's campaign proposal roll back the Bush tax cuts, to take them from 35-39%. I argued that that doesn't make him a socialist. REMEMBER NOW?

I was agnostic, initially. Now I'm against it. I like the parts about improving the electric grid (even Steve Forbes likes that), extending unemployment, some of the infrastructure (please, though, no more roads/bridges to onwhere), stuff like that. But there is just so much of it that is PURE DEBT that it's sickening. Some credit to Collins and Nelson for trying to get at least some of that out.
Sorry, it appears that I may have angered Cliffy. I don't like fighting like that but, unfortunately, that's the way he apparently likes to play. I probably would have done better just ignoring him.

I don't mean to be partisan on this but this stimulus bill is 1,100 pages long and not a single member of the House or Senate has read it. That scares me. Hell, it should scare everybody. P.S. I want Obama to succeed, Voltron. I just don't think that this is the ticket for him. There's too much junk in this bill and the stuff that is (or might be) good, a lot of that doesn't get spent for another year or two. I'm afraid he's going to start making Bush (who absolutely DID screw things up) look like a piker. Here's to hoping that I'm wrong.
Voltron, I read your comment over at Lydia's. It's sad. That's a place where people could potentially have some interesting political exchanges and dialogue. Unfortunately, though, she's allowed the site to be hijacked by a small band of lunatics who's only goal is to squelch that dialogue. As you can also plainly see, I've retired from commenting (yes, that last head-banging session with Bartlebee was sufficient) there. Though, yes, I'm sure that Bartlebee continues to see me in the words of MCH, Frank Frey, etc.. Talk about an SOB, huh? LOL
